Visser SMP makes the sperm whale squirt

With a lot of enthusiasm Visser Special Metal Products from Harlingen is developing and fabricating the installation to make the Whale Fountain squirt. A video showing the first test went viral immediately. It’s Dutch only, but you will get the gist.

Grappa Studio from Paris is visiting Visser SMP in Harlingen to test and assess the installation. Up until the end of 2017, Grappa was the producer for The Whale on behalf of artists Allora & Calzadilla. It is very clear that the installation can spray, but how do we make it resemble the spray of a sperm whale best? Many tests are done: a bit lower, a bit wider, more air, shorter, fiercer … In between tests the nozzle is easily adjusted in the workplace. Everything is filmed and in the end the artists will decide how the water image should be.
